I too would have preferred a couple sniper shots. I'm not sure if everything was set up before things got "hinkey". I hope the "slaughter option" is trained for if required. Is it?

There are certainly risks taken with this tactic.

If it's not trained for, then more training and option analysis is a good idea in the "lessons learned" reports.

I'm glad nobody but the bad guys got hurt once this went down.

Lost in translation is something I have seen for years on these forums... I may be intense (a positive trait IMO) but I don't try to be a smartass... Most who actually know me know I will stand by my convictions but am always willing to admit when I am wrong and another thing most will say is they don't know too many who look forward to learning as much as possible about a personal interest... I have also learned in 15+ years on the Al Gore's greatest invention, That many folks more often read too much into a post than is necessary...

I'm glad the"double tap" application came up Chase.I remember attending a training class some 20 or so years back which specifically addressed the double tap method. It was film involving a shooting on a highway ( I believe it was California) which was caught live on film by a news crew in a helicopter. It clearly showed that the LEO's would "double tap", lower their weapon to 45 degrees, and re assess before firing again. This pause and assessment in a blazing gun fight actually cost a couple of them their lives.Shootouts have demonstrated that when we are in high stress situations, we revert back to our training. For that reason, I always liked the idea of continually changing the course of fire when qualifying on the range.

VERY GOOD POINT, Emerald... I have never been professionally trained and the impromptu training I have tried varied widely as I or a buddy would learn of new techniques...

In fact, I can't tell the difference in the Weaver stance and one (forget the name) that is close...

Maybe my having no single intensive method ingrained, may be of benefit if needed...

I do know of the shootout in Ca. you mention... The forum "The Firing Line" (owned by the owner of "S.W.A.T." magazine) has had much great discussion on it.

Like I've posted several times in previous post regarding LEO's, until you have all the facts.....there will be they should have done this/that. Until you step into their shoes you won't know. I know about as much as those in this post about this particular incident. Although my info is less dramatic then the 17 rounds....but the AK was correct.

For those who think swat snipers just fall out of the sky and can be there in a jiffy....sorry but it's not that way. If the threat is "contained" and swat can respond, you are looking at 15-20 minute (more in different areas) response time. If this was a small town agency, there is probably no swat.

If it ended up in a populated parking lot and the dirtbags are spraying lead, they don't care anything about innocent bystanders and it's the officers job to eliminate the threat. I am thankfull that no bystanders got injured but lets play the way a few might think....There was bystanders in the background and the dirtbags are spraying rounds. The officers notice this and don't fire back. So the dirtbags go towards the crowd taking out folks...Is it OK now or do the officers wait till they are all dead/injured? Or as the dirtbags advance on the officers to put bullets in them, is it OK to fire now?

If I'm at Wally World and a gunfight breaks out, I "believe" most folks would take cover. My job is to eliminate the threat and that's what I would do. If I can't wait fer swat, I have enough training/sense to handle the situation.

Ya'll just keep what ifin', I enjoy the posts:usaflag

Once again prayers to the families/friends/victims in this tragic event...:angel

One thing for sure, There won't be any repeat offenders here. Great job done by law enforcement. Sorry the cost was so great.
