Buddy called me today and said cock of the walk in pcola is closing Jan 3. Anyone know if this is true? I hope he's messing with me. Cock of the walk is my favorite catfish in the area. catfish, coleslaw, cornbread, greens, and pickeled onions! Please say this is a hoax?

I didn't even realize that any of these were still open. The one in Birmingham closed down probably 15 years ago.

Food service can be a tough business. I heard somewhere that 80% of all restaurants that open their doors eventually close. Those are tough numbers. |

Yea I remember the one in B'ham out near Oak Mountain. Anyway I am a big catfish guy and a couple weeks ago coming back from the Bama game we stopped in Evergreen Alabama at the Shrimp Basket and I ordered their catfish basket. It was a ton of fish, fries, HP's and slaw for $10.99. I would recommend you try it.

Yep, it's closing for good. I LOVE that place. We are having our work Christmas party there this year, and it will be a good last hoorah. And as weird as this sounds, they have one of the best ribeyes in town.

Oak mountain concerts were awesome 20 years ago. Most everything there now wasn't there. The dirt parking area, the lawn, all the businesses. Many memories of skynard and hank jr. concerts, along with many others.
I had my first, second, third, and fourth beer in that parking lot. Fun times to say the least... |

I know this is a semi hijack but the best catfish place in the world is Top of the River in Gadsden, Alabama. If you are ever heading up I-59 North around lunch or dinner it is worth the detour.
