I doubt they would. What would the point be?

in fact they made them from 1994-??, I just sold one a few months ago. Mine was the 1500 Z71 4x4 king cab with a 6.5 turbo diesel. The truck was strong, previos owner towed a goose neck horse trailer and I used it to tow my 272 Sportcraft. Most of these trucks ended up selling up north and Canada as they use them as snow plows

I was planning to buy one. It would be my first new truck. After talking with GM the last week over the phone, they told me that they are no longer planning to put the 4.5 Duramax into production

Diesels are fun to play with which is why I like having a diesel truck but, really don't need the 3/4 or 1 ton configurations.

Also, GM, Ford, and Dodge all planned to introduce diesel 1/2 ton trucks but so far its just been a bunch of hype to get everyone talking and excited.

My 1984 1500 diesel got 25+ mpg... weak but that 6.2 pulled the highway gears just fine!

they haven't put a diesel in the 1500 since they stopped making the 6.5. all the 1500HD's have the gas 6.0 and occasionally the 8.1 but the 8.1 and Duramax 6.6 have been only in the 3/4 and 1 ton since about '02 or '03. They looked hard at the 4.5 V-6 Duramax for the 1/2 ton and the Hummer's but I think that idea was discarded when the gob'ment bailed them out. I had an '03 and an '07 2500HD with the 6.6 and loved the engine even though the early models had a few injector issues but they made it right with a recall and extended the warranty on the injectors to 200k miles.
