I am not against the open carry idea by no means, but as I understand the main reason Evers is proposing it is because the current conceal carry law penalizes the guy whose coat blows open and reveals his "concealed" weapon. If this is the reason, why not modify the CC law. I prefer to keep mine concealed.

My OPINION is that we do not have an open carry law. Maybe re-word the statue on concealed carry for the slim chance that your coat gets blown open. It would be interesting to know how many LAW ABIDING citizens have been arrested for carrying concealed with a permit and their gun accidently is exposed for a second. My guess is you could count those times on one hand and when they are arrested 100% of them will be dropped in court because there would not be any INTENT to publically display it if it were accidental.

I would bet the farm that the crime rate will NOT decrease because of an open carry law. A majority of the violent criminals aren't rational people and could care less if you are armed or not. Like someone said previously, a lot of them will see an oppurtunity to take the firearm from someone who they think they can get it from because that person is smaller or weaker.

On the other hand, I am a huge supporter of law abiding citizens carry firearms on them concealed.

My opinion, I have a CCW permit and don't see a big upside for open carry vs concealed. When I see a guy with a gun, I want to assume it's a bad guy and not have to first assume he's got a permit to open carry and it turns out to be a bg. Make sense?

I like it but not for any of the reasons seen so far. We work alot of really late hours out side in parking lots after hours in some ruff areas of pensacola, I feel open carry would discourage a lot of the scum from walking up to us trying to bum money, selling drugs and checking us out. Most of them if they seen a gun would'nt bother . I've been working like this for years but the last few has been bad.

I agree with you a psych should be mandatory. And an IQ test..... I do also agree with the guy who is worried about someone seeing it with the curent rules (sorry iPhone I can't go back to check your name). I do see this being a disaster down here in Miami for about 1,000,000 reasons.

Its not that big of a deal guys.

OC is legal in many states and these "concerns" many of you have just do NOT happen.

OC is a good thing. I HATE trying to conceal my weapon down there during the summer, back in KY were OC is legal my options carrying, including concealed, are greatly expanded as Im not having to worry about which way I move or sit or bend everywhere I go.

I conceal carry 99% of the time . I would prefer open carry for the simple reason that gentle wolf said . As for a down side i really dont see one if every one in public could see you were armed they would think b4 doing something stupid. I dont see the big deal if some one ask what kinda weapon you carry while standing in line at (wal-mart ) I don't think there will be that much of a problem . With some one asking to hold it in wal mart line or something its probable going to be a kid since i would assume most adults would know the wal mart line is not a appropriate place to remove your weapon from the holster . If you could open carry you have more reason to carry your weapon every wear since you dont have to worry with what if my shirts not long enough or what ever the case maybe . I think most people leave there weapon off there person because they worry about this happening . The summer times the worst trying to find clothing that cool and still will conceal the weapon . With open carry you still have the option of conceal carrying the weapon so its just better all around

Yes, but how many hours of your time and/or attorney time and fees are required to be spent before that happens?
And that expense will not go away until the current law is clarified or a new law specifically allows open carry.

I agree. I have my CC and don't care to openly display to the world that I'm packing. I also can't stomach the thought of some of they yahoos we will see out in public "packing they Glock".

I agree JBB that it would not be right for someone to have to go through that. I would really be interested to know how many people in this state were arrested because their gun accidently was uncovered by their shirt or jacket for a brief moment. Like I said before, you can probably count those times on one hand. I am just saying that this arguement won't hold a lot of weight with law makers because it rarely happens. I can say this, with 10 years experience as a LEO I have never made an arrest like that and have never seen anyone get arrested because their jacket blew open and their gun was visable.
