Default calcium chloride usage in pools ???

I have had a hard time getting my pool water balanced the last couple of years. I can't hardly put baking soda in it because it will stain my pool. I was just doing a little research and found that hard water will cause this problem and adding calcium chloride will help "soften" the water up. Do any of yall have any experience using calcium chloride in your pool?

Default RE: calcium chloride usage in pools ???

Adding calcium Chloride is done to increase the hardness. You need a certain degree of 'hardness' in a pool, otherwise the chlorine (an ozidizer) will turn your plastic pipe, pump and filter housings, and liner to get brittle and erode. You want it to be between 200 and 350 parts per million to keep your pool happy.

You can take a water sample to Pensacola Pools and they will test it for free. They do a good job with mine (pool and hot tub). I have all the high end test kits, but they do a better job (and the price is right).

If you just want to research it on your own take a look at this forum, I have had good luck there.
