I've known rick my whole life too scully, I grew up two doors down from there and i can tell you there's for sure a differance between Smiths and B&B though. Rick's OK but he can be rude sometimes, just a dry person i guess, i wouldn't say they have good customer service at all but i still shop there. i try and give people the Benefit of the doubt that they were probably havin a bad day. the minimun purchase thing sucks but if you can't afford the extra few bucks worth of items go somewhere else. i don't agree w/ it but it's their choice i guess, i walked out of places like that before because i didn't really want to spend any more money than that and didn't have the cash but if the money was there i'd just buy something else no biggie.

i just called my credit processor, there is not minimum charge for swiping a card, all swipes are charged a certain percentage, higher percentage for credit card and lower percentage for depit card, triple percentage for Amex. card. so yall come on down and please swipe your card, i dont care how much it is for... thank you for your time..

Anybody who knows a lick about running a business knows there is a cost associated with doing business. Why not build the cost of the processing into the prices and offer a discount for cash customers??

There's many ways to go about running your business...some smart, others, not so smart. He's not doing business real smart in my opinion...he's taking it out on the card users instead of creating a solution that works for everyone and possibly drives more cash business his way.
I see it crystal clear, if it is my business I have the right to run it as I see fit. Period. I don't necessarily think he is right but he has taken a stand and if you don't like that stand then don't do business with him, but do not slam him for such trivial hullabalew on a public forum.

Not if you have a contract with another business in which you agree to conform to the requirements of the other business.

Your crystal is somewhat cloudy. If he posts Mastercard as an acceptable method of payment, he has contractual obligations to Mastercard to perform as they direct.

Does Mastercard pay his light bill or any other for that matter. It is very simple, if you don't like it don't go.

Why yes, actually they do. His business would drop significantly if he did not accept mastercard and therefore they do in fact help him make the money that pays his power bill(I'm not really sure what a light bill is).

You are missing my point entirely. I am self employed and have been since 1980. I personally couldn't give a rip what a credit card company wants, they are there to help me run my business not strap my hands. Like I said, I don't agree with his decision and it will cost him business in the long run. But it is his to run how he sees fit whether you or I or even the credit card company likes it or not. I am not the enemy here, just trying to get people to see the other side.

Well, if indeed the percentage rate is .04 %, 39 cents is what it would have cost to eliminate all of this negative publicity for B&B. Bad business decision. If you are a struggling small business, pay the $.39 and make people happy. The cost of NOT playing $.39 is far greater. This is the way our free enterprise system works. Yes, you may have the right....but that right will cost you.

well having a small business myself it is a catch 22.When someone wants to purchase a pack of smokes or a 4 pack of beer and use a debit card all the profit is taken out of the transaction. It is my choice to be in business and it is my choice to also run off customers if they choose to because i have a minium or have a fee added to it.I asked a bunch of customers before i made the move. Most all of them said we understand and at your prices we dont everything going up.Also on the flip side i also understand i make a choice by not using cash. The greenback is still on top and accepted anywhere. If someone charged for taking cash this post would be 180 degrees.Once you have run a business taken charge cards please feel free. The consumer will let you know if you are doing the right thing in your business

I have owned a few different businesses. When I had a retail outfit in the mall I took cards (except Amex), had no minimum fee, and understood it is simply the price of doing business in the 21st century. The loss of a sale or a customer should be weighed quite heavily when making these decisions. This just spotlights the number of tough choices a business owner has to make.
