Default Big Green Egg Folly

Narrative:
Last night, went to smoke some deer sausage I made up. Started the fire, put the sausage on the grill, and waited for the heat to come up. And waited, and waited. After 30 minutes of looking at the thermometer, finally opened the BGE and almost set my arm on fire. The charcoal was going great and the thermometer was reading 75 degrees. Had to be over 400 degrees from the flash and flames.

Shut down the vents and estimated the temp so I could finish smoking the sausage which came out okay. {More a spice issue than a heat issue.}

Investigated the issue this morning and found the temp gauge was bent.

Cause:
To help cut down on patio clutter, stored the lump charcoal bag in the BGE when I wasn't using the Egg. The bag bent the gauge needle when I closed the lid.

Lesson learned:
Don't store things in the Egg! AARRGGHHH!

aaargg.
Although I have heard worse.
Once I was cooking a turkey and could not figure out why the egg was only at 100 degrees, I kept opening the door and it temp did not change. Turns out the probe had gone into the bird and I was reading meat temp.

I stock the replacement gauges if you need one.
Thanks
Sky
