Default Beware of space heaters - house fire

Just a reminder, especially if you have family up in cold country.

The son of a good friend of mine had their rental home burn to the ground near Springfield Missouri yesterday as a result of a space heater.
Very blessed that they were not home in bed asleep. Their pets were with them and also unharmed.
It doesn't always work out that well.

Not to put down your friends, but did they really leave space heaters running while they were away. In the business I'm in, space heaters are a job security. Burns up homes daily.

Uhmmm....never leave a space heater unattended and you won't have a problem. Don't even leave them plugged in if electric.

I think it was a case of a home grown southern boy who had always had central heat and air in Florida and moved up north and was renting an old frame home temporarily.
Regardless of the circumstances or comments, I just wanted it to be a reminder.
We were all young once.

It is just not "space" heaters that cause winter fires.

Trying to stay warm often causes one to do unconventional acts.

Glad they were not hurt.

Renters insurance is about $200 per year.

Dang. I've had mine plugged in since December.
Think it's a heater issue, or a putting flammables to close to heat source issue?

It would advisable to check the connections at the outlet, and make sure they are not overheating. I would probably upgrade the outlet.

Not to mention the deaths every year because of lighting charcoal grills in tents or houses for heat or cooking. Horrible stuff.
