What happened was my father was scheduled to be done with his surgery at 3. I kept calling on the hour after the scheduled time past. They kept telling me he's still in surgery. I got worried enough that I drove over there to make sure he's alive. I got there at about 8pm. I walked in and the staff had went home. I went over to the info desk and it said to dial 0 if nobody was there. I did so and this lady answered. I told her my father is in surgery and gave his name. She said he's still in surgery. I told her I'm a little worried because it's now 5 hours later than he was scheduled to be done and could she ring a nurse for me. I was nice and really more worried sounding. As I was saying that in the middle of the sentence half way done she starts yelling sir sir sir sir sir. I said yes? She said you know surgeons get backed up to and hung up the phone on me. As far as feeding her family screw that. I think my father is dead and they won't tell me on the phone and I get that? If I suck at my job I deserve to be fired as does she. After I went to the ER and found a nice man willing to do his job with a good attitude to boot I asked for the person incharge of the rude lady I spoke to by dialing zero. I left a message complaining and have not received a call back. As far as the rest of the hospital goes I'm happy but that one lady has our butts at sacred heart where we have had nothing but positive experiences.

If it was someone you spoke to after dialing 0, she was a switchboard operator (phone operator who does nothing but answer phones) not a receptionist. I would definitly follow up on it as her job IS to answer phone calls and either connect folks to the correct extension or offer an appropriate explanation why that party cannot be contacted.

IMO, I would DEFINITELY choose Baptist over Sacred Heart. (Personal experience at/with both).

Thanks for the post!
Gives me an opportunity to offer you less than an alternative...Scarred Heart. Cardio Consultants suck! One receptionist is yawning and rolling her eyes, another appears to be asleep at the reception counter???? My credit card is "no good", even though they already used it twice.
After complaining to management, i was told the doctor said, "if I dont like the way he runs his office, i cant find another doctor.....so I did.
BAPTIST beats the hell out of Scarred Heart...... Going to the cardiologist is not supposed to skyrocket your blood pressure.
Oh Ya, Im still waiting for that list of cardiologists... Ms Bartley????
Remember? thats why you took my email address

I'm in NO way defending her Bullshark, but our federal laws are a bi#@ch when it comes to releasing medical information.
Be sure to follow up with her supervisor. Her bad attitude is inexcusable, regardless of her "having a bad hair day".
Where is Trump when you need him ?

I understand. Before he went in he signed some paperwork on me having full access to his records. I'm over it now and the boss never returned my call. It can't be all that bad of a place. I am the only complaint I have ever seen/heard on them and I have heard many about the other place. SH was where Zach was born and i like everyone there except the OBGYN (for my wife). I just didn't expect that up here. It could also be that I need a little time to desouthfloridaize and let things go which you can't do down south. It's all good. This part of the world is already lowering my blood preasure.

I have to agree with most of the other posters. Sacred Heart is #1 in my book. I have been in and through Sacred Heart, Baptist, West Fla. and Milton hospitals. Sacred heart takes the prize, above and beyond all the others. By the way all the others have also given me great service in my last 4 years battling cancer and surgeons practicing on me. All of them have had a part in my care.

Receptionist or whoever gave you the twisted shorts, needs to be on the unemployment rolls.

Good luck

Bullshark, I sympathize with your experience and encourage you to follow up. Management surely needs to know and hear from you. The complaint could have been lost in the list of things to do or investigated on their end with no call to you. Your side of the story needs to be heard. From what I read, you sound very rational. Personally, a situation like that would have been forwarded to a house supervisor and I would have had someone come and meet you and escort you to the appropriate area for a debrief. Call HR when you have a chance and ask to discuss this matter as it is of grave concern. I hope the surgery went well and your father is doing better

In regards to the information, even though you filled out the information, it is hard to verify over the phone that you are who you say you are. The hospital patience privacy act is a huge deal and could result in severe fines if the information was given out incorrectly. It has definitely changed the way business is and it used to be.

As for the operator, no excuse. She should be reprimanded at the minimum and depending on history, possible further action taken.

Cheers - Boatnbob

PS: I don't work there, but flew for them for the last 6 years in Mobile. My sister has been a nurse for over 30 years providing me a better understanding of how hospitals work. There are the few who make the many look bad with their individual behavior. Glad you found a hospital you are comfortable with.
