yea don't get me wrong nothing against Tebow, but the picture is funny. I'm just one of those people that can laugh and joke about anything without taking offense.

Picture this: A quarterback throwing that ball to a to a wide receiver and it skips into the receiver's arms.

How many times have you seen that called an incomplete pass?????? 100%

I agree with not reversing that call. But it should have been called an incomplete pass on the field. That call was not the reason we lost that game, btw. Jenkins is a DIPSTICK. 15 yd penalty, rode a receiver into the endzone, then tried to block a 52 FG attempt???? The only question I had before the play was, does the kicker run it or throw to the tight end. How in the world did Jenkins not know a fake was on and run right past the kicker?

Ball bounced LSU's way all night. That happens. You can't beat luck!

it is an incomplete pass if it was ruled to have been a forward pass. if it's even or behind the line though it's a latteral. since this was ruled as a latteral it doesn't matter if it bounced. i hated watching the replay while it was under review. the more i saw it, the more i knew it was dead even and the refs got it right, IMO. agree with your other point though. i was surprised that we weren't looking for the fake.

Edit: I'm a die hard Florida fan....but we deserved to lose that game. I cannot believe we did not run max coverage on that fake 53 yard field goal. The kicker should of never been able to advance that ball for a first down. Jenkins should of hit him in the backfield, but was too busy trying to block the kick. MAX COVERAGE DAMNIT.

It was not ruled a latteral, but instead a backwards pass.

Apparently the SEC officials, after thought, concluded it was a live ball "backward pass", and therefore allowed.

Rule 7.2.2a says:

“When a backward pass or fumble is caught or recovered by an inbounds player, the ball continues in play. EXCEPTION: On fourth down before a change of team possession, when a Team A fumble is caught or recovered by a Team A player other than the fumbler, the ball is dead. If the catch or recovery is beyond the spot of the fumble, the ball is returned to the spot of the fumble. If the catch or recovery is behind the spot of the fumble, the ball remains at the spot of the catch or recovery.”

Based on that, it would seem Helton is the only one who could recover. But, here are the exceptions that allowed the ruling to stand.

Rule 2.10.1 says:

“A fumble is any act other than passing, kicking or successful handling that results in loss of player possession.”

AND, rule 2.19.2a makes the following distinction between a forward and backward pass:

“A forward pass is determined by the point where the ball first strikes the ground, a player, an official or anything beyond the spot of the pass. All other passes are backward passes.”

What does that all mean? Because the play was ruled it backward pass, it does not count as a fumble according to rule 2.10.1. That allowed LSU to advance the ball, and the rule in question does not apply.

This is a perfect example of the same type of deal....watch this backwards pass that is considered a live ball.
