Default Anyone want to work in Afghanistan ?

I am headed to Mobile tomorrow for a job fair with Fluor. They are an engineering construction company that is hiring for all positions to build 8 forward operating bases in Afghanistan. Haven't heard salary yet but I have been trying to get over there for YEARS now and most companies start out at around 100K. Here is the link.

If I didn't have 2 young boys I would have already been over there, I've been offered a position twice and the money I could have brought home in 2 years was awesome. I make good money now so I'm going to start where I'm at.

My first question is will they let you carry or are you on your own?

Yeah the money might be good but I wouldn't consider this a good time to go anywhere in the Middle East or parts of Northern Africa. Good luck & be safe if you do go.

Dan, most civilians can't carry over there, with a few exceptions. Orion, don't think they will take me back again at 43 years old, besides I wouldn't go for a millitary salary. I know guys that have been over there for YEARS making BANK, you have a better chance of getting killed driving to work here each day. You live on a millitary compound and the money makes it worth the risk to me anyway.

If you need a little booze, a good trick is to empty a large bottle of Scope, refill with cheap vodka then add a few drops of green food dye.

Put it in a care package and mail.

It does taste just a little minty though.

i was over there and yes the pay is good but no you cant carry under the LOGCAP IV contract. for most of the jobs they will tell you that you COULD make up to 110000 a year but remember if you come back to the states for 35 days or more, you pay taxes on everything you made but if you come back for 34 days or less then you only pay on what you make after 84k or so. most of the jobs you will get starting out will be about 85 to 95k a yr. unless you get hired in to an upper end job (mamnagement, security or something higher0 you really wont get more than 95k or so. that is just a round about number that i saw everyone else making so dont hold me to it but that is was i saw them making over there. now if you can get in to a security job, then you are set. you want leave base, and you will make over 100k starting out most of the time. if you have and questions, PM me. and by the way, the living conditions in AFG or sh!t. it really sucks living there.
