No disrespect to the Gator fans but they don't understand. I grew up 30 minutes north of Tuscaloosa and have pictures made in Alabama tee shirts going back to 1973 when I was born. When it was time to pick a college I could have asked my parents to pay $$$$ for Alabama or take a free ride to Jacksonville State on golf/academic Scholarship. Had I known I'd have to give my fandom I would have made a different decision. In my opinion the reason some Florida fans can't understand how you can be a real fan even if you didn't go there is because up until the 90's that was the only fans they had because their teams were not a factor in anything. Now because of their great success, that I have a lot of respect for, they have developed a huge fan base. And, the fan who did go there would like to think they fit into the fan base a little (hell a lot) higher than the non-student fan. What percentage of Notre Dame fans went to school there? I'd bet it would be less than 2 or 3%.

Hey Florida fans who did not attend school there... you have a guy on here saying he's a better fan than you because he went to school there. How does that make you feel. WE have plenty of room in the Bama Nation for all fans. Come on over you are welcome here. Replace all your Florida gear with Alabama stuff!!!! Buy that hat, shirt, stickers...We'll have a 100K plus seat baseball field in no time.

Jighead - that guy is actually an Auburn fan or excuse me, an "Alumni real fan." Great point nonetheless!

x2 w/ rammer jammer. jighead i have much respect for you and i know it was a mistake, but i did not completely with your post. i don't think anyone should ever say so-and-so's fans wouldn't understand, regardless of school, because of what one person's opinion is. i don't know about other places, but there's no room for that here in the south where a majority of people root for bama, auburn, uf, fsu, lsu, uga, um, etc - and they never attended that school. maybe jersey where you're from there and you probably went to rutgers or something. i don't know. no one owes an explanation to anyone for who they root for. as long as you're loyal, that's what makes you a real fan.

Thats already the problem with fans, they change loyalties like the change underwear. I have been a Gator fan since 1970, Good, bad, ugly doesn't matter I'm there. I can remember when the Gators couldn't whip their way out of a wet paper sack but hey I'm still a fan. I don't change with the seasons or the win loss column. All I have to say is GO GATORS. Reguardless of wins or losses.

I with you, remember the old days when our battle cry was "Wait Til Next Year".

For you younger guys that was for Georgia not FSU....

I remember it well, but some how next year seldom came. It was also more about teaching young men about building character and learning about lifes lessons rather than win at all costs.

I've learned to live with the fact that the panhandle of Florida starting say 60 miles west of tallacrappie is basically southern Alabama.

I'd guess most "fans" are...

35% bama

30% auburn

really a tie, but the fair weather fans are showing up for bama now

20% GATORS

10 % fsu

10 % lsu

A few more for uga, troy, um, etc.

Yes I understand that's 105% plus, but it includes the new bama band wagon fans plus the "others"...

I accept this is more "lower alabama" (redneck riviera) and less "west FLORIDA".

I understand family "alliegiance". Heck, with the GATORS recent successes I enjoy the "friendly" competition.

EUREKA.... Now some people [I spelled people right this time splittine] seem to get the frustration that led me to start this thread. Be a real fan! Don't jump on the bandwagon every time the song changes. If your a bammer now be a bammer 2yrs from now ....gator ...nole.. tiger ...ditto. We all know after Utah whipped Bama you didn't see a ROLL TIDE sticker anywhere. Then Bama whipped Saint Tebow and the boys, crimson everywhere you look. BE LOYAL It's a lot more satisfying when you don't have to say "wait till next year"
