FISHBOXFULL (4/16/2009)I agree to buy local, omega go to sherwin williams and ask someone at the counter to speak to Gus ( the outside sales rep) you will get a better discount by just asking because you are a contractor. I know, I worked there as a sales rep before layoffs last year. As for cabinets, you need to see Chuck at The Cabinet Barn @ 3800 W. fairfield Dr. He beats anybody in town including Home depot and Lowes and will do a grapic scale of your remodel if you sit with him!!!! He will do the install or just sell you cabinets for you to assemble and install. Great selection of cabinets and countertops, tile ect... And yes he is an individual company owner that lives here in Pensacola!!!!

Erik

I agree to use local too, I only goto the sherwin williams in gulf breeze. I get great prices there and the manager Van is a PFF'r and always accommodates me however possible. (not to mention the s-w on palafox/texar pissed me the F off and I will never spend a dime in there, ever!) Thats good info on the cabinet guy, I wonder if he can order from the more upper lines, like higher up than kraftmaid or shenandoah.?

buully48 (4/16/2009)Not bashing you Omega, but its company like these that hurt our local economy!! im still one who believes support your local tradesman and businesses!! Direct buy is notorious for throwing false retail prices out there!! im in retail and there is no way in hell you can sell stuff at these high retail prices direct buy advertises that other companys sell it for and what do you do when you have a problem who is going to warranty it or take care of it!! If you do your shopping, you will realizethat place is a total rip off. Im actually shocked as a local builder you would let a homeowner buy from that place!! By the way that is a very nice looking house you are building on lakeview!!

Hey thanks for the compliment! I am not making the connection though, if Direct Buy is a franchised company, the owners of the local Direct Buys are, infact, locals? So buying from them would be no different than going to pensacola hardware. (well almost anyway) No different than spending money @ subway, chick-fila, etc etc etc. The window package was purchased for 9k... all Jeld-Wen ,Vinyl clad wood, all impact, low e w/ gas, and transoms. thats a wonderful price!

To clarify::: Direct Buy program is NOT A GOOD IDEA TO JOIN WHATSOEVER UNLESS YOU ARE BUILDING A NEW HOUSE FROM THE GROUND UP OR COMPLETELY GUTTING YOUR HOME.! YOU DO NOT END UP SPENDING LESS, YOU SPEND THE SAME OR MORE. you just a lot better grade/quality for the money.

No, it wouldn't.

If you were going to buy $60k in cabinets you should go find a good custom shop and spend far less on better quality.

Boardfeet on here has cabnets in stock and can probably order what ever you want, then you are supporting a local that is a good guy.

Just an update (actually, I had posted in another thread):

I am building a house, so I should be the person Direct Buy would work for.

I have not saved anywhere near the buy in money... I would not recommend it to anyone.

It is difficult to use, and generally a waste of time and money.
