One of the best functions "in my opinion" is the echo trails "especially in the oil field". This allows you to determine risk of collision, and also to decipher moving vs non moving targets. Some of the newer models also can be integrated with AIS giving the actual name of the other vessels being interrogated. The AIS feature is more common with commercial vessels, but fishing off of Louisiana, the feature could be very useful.
