Park staff might be doing little clean up jobs but there are like only six "maintenance" persons. Clearing the road with just about anything other than the power broom and a rather small front end loader is contracted out.
And the contractor is not going to bring in two dozen machines either.
First they clear a one lane path to the far end.
Then they start clearing to what will be acceptable in order to open to the public b at the far end. And they work their way back to the gate.
And you can't just push it sideways like snow, you have to scoop and dump every load of the bucket.
Maybe it will be open by end of next week.
Maybe longer.
Road from PB to Navarre is just a scenic drive so it might remain closed longer as it might not get touched until the Ft. Pickens part is all done and open.

QUOTE] Langdon is just past the guard station. After that is a large stretch beyond that area leading to the main park which requires a lot of work every time there's a storm. The Park Rangers are the ones that get cut 1st when there are Government cuts. Is it supposed to be ours, yes. Is it priority, no. I grew up combing and knowing every inch of that area. For anyone to think for a second that they have any right to that area I believe that Geronimo would say...how.
Lol! Honestly if I felt compelled to enjoy that area, the road wouldn't stop me. It's not like it's area 51. Or is it
None LEO Park Rangers, yes.
But even during the government shutdown a couple years ago, the parks were locked up but they made sure the LEO Rangers were on duty to keep us riff-raff out.

this inconvenience is "paving" the way to launch the ferry project

since there is no LEing to be done, except the gate,
maybe they could find shovels that fit the rangers hands.
they could consider it an exercise program.

Fort Pickens Rd is a narrow road. I don't understand why, with the heavy equipment they have, the road didn't open on Tuesday. But here it is more than 48 hours after the storm passed and they still have it closed. I'm beginning more and more to understand why I've heard locals state that the rangers treat the park like it's their personal backyard. Must be nice having free housing on a 7 mile undeveloped beach without those pesky campers, fishermen, and tourists.

Can you wrap you mind around the pics above. I do not see "about a foot of sand" as you describe.
Do you know how long Fort Pickens Road actually is??

I only understand your Original Post, if it was based upon NO facts.

Hey take it easy on the Govt.. They have more important things to pay for like a 43 million dollar gas station in Afganistan that never opened. Or welfare mothers popping out kids and talking on their Obama phones. My guess is that the Park Service budget is not adequate to run it and the Taxpayers like us are the ones that suffer. Fishing is definitely not as important as buying votes !
