Default What fish is this??

This is the picture in question. It was used in a news article today about Alabama's new red snapper season. Several of my buddies and I now find ourselves in a heated debate on what exactly this fish is, or is not. Hopefully someone can shed some insight on the situation. Preferably with some scientific backing. Keep in mind there are dozens of snapper species around the world and many of them are red in color. A case of beer is at stake here people, this is serious business. Is it the red snapper that we know and love, or is it something else?

Not a "local" red snapper. But I have no scientific data to back up my findings

okay sorry. the link should work now. I think its too streamline and the mouth and gill plate are too small for a red snapper. But i could be wrong.

OK in case you didnt know you can google search images if you use google chrome which you should be using anyways. Right click over the image/ search google for this image. Its an easy way to sort out scammers selling stuff, fake FB profile pix etc. That exact image came up with 480 results for red snappers. Its pretty much a stock photo for red snapper.

yeah the picture comes up for almost every type of snapper you google. Its just the image channel 15 (WPMI Mobile) used for their news story. And yes Dawns the winner gets a case. If it can even be determined.
