Default Waterproofing mounts on your kayak...

Do you need to use rivets or can you use screws? Not sure how watertight they would be or if it matters that much. I'm trying to mount two rod holders like this one...

You can use either but screws and nuts will be stronger. Use ample amounts of marine goop around the holes and you should be good and watertight.

1st choice; If you can reach it from the inside, use SS machine screws washers & nylon locknuts & a little goop & you’re good to go.

2nd choice; If you can’t reach it from inside, use “Well Nuts”. They aren’t anywhere as strong as machine screws but will get the job done.

3rd choice; Personally, I do not like rivets; they are too hard to remove when you want to change out your set-up. However if you use the correct types with a large rear expansion, they will do the job & are probably a little stronger than well nuts, & with a little goop should not leak.
