I'm out of this thread after this, but watch out for vibrio. Unreported death a couple of weeks ago and another person whose kidneys shut down. He survived but his bone was exposed after the infection.

Big Lagoon has some nice grass beds. I have only fished there from a boat. I think the state park will let you wade out there and fish. Call before you go to make sure that I am correct but i have seen people do it. Around the Horn is correct that we had a death several months back due to Vibrio (bacteria) so if you have cuts or liver problems, you probably don't want to wade. You can also get it from uncooked shellfish. I do see people fly fishing at Ft. Pickens around the point. If you park near the fishing pier and walk on the beach toward the gulf, you can usually find something without being in the grass beds. One morning near the pass I saw a guy catch a redfish beauty. I don't do much shore fishing anymore but I seem to have had the best luck on the beach early morning and just before sundown.

First Cast

The Naval Live Oaks just east of Gulf Breeze is a good place to wade fish. Specks, reds, and the occasional poor man's tarpon ladyfish.
