First of all, as a US Air Force Officer for the past 15 years - all of it flying with 6 years flying AC-130's with similar sensor technology - I'm throwing the BS flag. Yes drones have come a long way since they were first developed in the 80's, but the capability to actually measure a fish to see how big it is, just isn't there. And the law states possession of a fish, so if you pull a 15" snapper into the boat - do the right thing, deflate it, and send it on its way.

Another reason the flag goes up is that every time I see this thread it's always third person as to who got a ticket from a drone. It's always "my buddy got one two months ago".

I saw this episode of Frontline when it aired - great show, but it never mentioned the ability to extract actual measurements of a fish or anything else.

Ummm, I was thinking in terms of possession limits not size limits....But I too am very doubtful of the drone stories, untill someone steps up with proof!

a new law takes affect this year that outlaws law enforcement use of drones for such things with three exceptions ........

SB 92: Restricts the use of unmanned aerial drones by law enforcement unless a judge issues a warrant, there is a “high risk of terrorist attack” or officials fear someone is in imminent danger.

For those that believe that tickets are being written because of the use of drones really need to stop believing everything they read on the internet. I would bet that every story anyone has ever heard about his best friend's brother's co-worker's neighbor getting a ticket is false. The resolution on this sensor you are referencing isn't even good enough to provide accurate measurements and is much better than most of them on current LEO/Military UAVs. Yes, in the future this may happen, but currently the technology isn't there.
