Default Trolling motor repairs, where to go?

Hi,

My minn Kota riptide 70 quit working. Who do you recommend I bring it too in Pensacola to get it fixed?

Fox's trolling motors in Mobile just repaired mine (251-661-7033). Very good people and great service. Will's marine here in town also repairs them but you have to bring your boat in because they have no way to test them other wise. I'm not sure why a Minn Kota authorized service center doesn't have a bank of batteries to test the motors. Oh well. Hope this helps.

What are the symptoms? I replaced the mother board in one I have. Not too expensive.

Work on it yourself..usually pretty simple fixes. Spin the prop by hand then try the button. If it works tear down The foot and order a rebuild kit. Most likely a rusted up short or brushes have rusted through.

Harold known as "Hammer" owns the store at the intersection of Hwy 29 and Molino Rd. He has a TM repair facility there in his store. Been there for years. He's fixed several of mine over the years. Good guy. Well known by the freshwater anglers. Hope this helps ya.

Fox's Trolling Motors in Mobile is worth the drive. I really don't know anything about the others though.

+2 on fox's. I couldnt get parts thru Hammers and when I would talk to him, it seemed like I was putting him out. He told me a composite shaft minn kota wouldnt be covered under warranty and he wanted to charge me for it, so I called minn kota. They covered it after talking to a rep. I guess I pissed in his mess kit that day.

Hi,

It's a 70lbs thrust -7 years old...was up on lake guntersville earlier in the week and I think the switch in the handle gave out. It would kind of catch and work at the thrust setting at first, later in the day, it would only barely spin after turning the prop.

I bough a new 70lbs minn Kota foot control model and it fit in the rip tides mount. It works fine. I just want to get the hand control salt water model fixed as a backup and for salt use.

By the way, the weather sucked and the fishing was worse...can't wait for the rivers to get a little clearer...
