Default Trolling destin?

How far off the shore do you guys go to troll? Say for mackerel, occasional mahi or cobia depending on luck. Not really looking to go out to the shelf right now.

You can catch kings at the sea buoys.

Like lobsterman said, troll around the sea buoy. I trolled several hundred yards off the beach, 35 to 40 ft range and caught 3 nice Kings a few weeks ago. I just headed west towards Navarre.

I have caught kings to 30 lbs right at the first two can buoys out the pass, so why run 7 miles to catch kings.

The buoys are good, with an outgoing tide and the right conditions. If you don't hit it right you won't catch anything. In my opinion you are better off trolling some natural bottom such as white hill, as previously mentioned, or some of the nearshore wrecks and barges. The good thing about these areas is that you are not limiting yourself to kings. You could easily catch an AJ, cobia, blackfin, or even a wahoo. There has been a ton of bait all over the nearshore stuff in 70-90' lately and with bait there are predators.

Liberty ship area. Basically all around the liberty ship but mostly to the SW of it and it goes for quite a ways.

Listen to sinperpeeps! We also have caught other game fish out there over the last 40 years ie #58 wahoo and smaller ones plus #68 cobia in the spring and tons of kings. 70' of water is VERY good for kings et all. White hill is where the old guys would run to and soak a live bait to catch the better kings.
Talk to some of the new old timers and they will tell you the same.
If one cannot afford to RUN 7 miles they need to sell the boat.
JD7.62 and startzc like this.
