How many of you guys watch the bike race? what are some of your thoughts about it, I personally think it is pretty cool event, ride a bike 2162 miles by yourself, you have a team but they can't peddle for you. Beats the NFL,NBA, major league baseball and most professional team sports in my eyes.

I watch it every year. I used to be an avid cyclist so I can really appreciate what they're doing. It's really a lot more of a team sport than most people realize. The teams usually work for one guy on the team to get him to a certain position...sometimes its for a sprint finish or sometimes they just help a rider conserve their energy for a big climb but "pulling" him. They draft in cycling just like nascar and it makes a huge difference in speed and energy consumption.

Pretty cool to watch it in person. When I was stationed in Germany in '05, I went and watched them speed through Paris. Those guys are moving.

I ride some - and look forward to the TDF every year.. though after today it looks like team Sky and Froome, barring a crash - are pretty much the class of the race and Sky maybe even get the first and second podium positons (Richie Porte) ! the others are riding for 3rd !

In America these athletes are so under rated and under appreciated...
TDF is like running 21 consecutive marthons - while displaying athletic skills, while working out individual and team tatics and strategy.

I've been cycling for over 20 years, off and on, since high school.
And I've watched the Tour just as long. I try to watch it every year, as much as possible.

As for the tights... what do football players wear? Oh yeah, that's right, they wear tights too.

Love the tour! The speed those guys are able to maintain on a bike for that length of time in a day and then do it over and over for two weeks in unreal. The tour is nothing but a team sport. Several guys bust there rear just so one guy can hopefully win. It's a true test of endurance and if youre in to cycling, then it's great to watch. I agree with mullethead. Looks like froome and team sky will be tough to beat.
