I saw a cool snake last week while doing yard work. It was solid black with an orange ring around it's neck. I wish I would have been able to take a pic because even though it was only about 5 - 6 inches long it was bright and beautiful. I have no idea what it was either.

That would be a ring neck snake also harmless. You could pick them up most likely they wont bite.

And their belly is bright orange or yellow. brighter than the ring.
