Default Sheepshead

Hello all,
Could someone school me on fishing for sheepshead. I know very little. I understand dead shrimp not live is that true? What type of rig do you use?

Thanks in advance,
Jamie

I have better luck with live shrimp.

Carolina rig.

Short leader about 8-12". 14 lb mono

Here is a pic... speed square for reference on size/ length.

I like a 7 ft rod with a light tip to detect the bites

I'll probably be hitting the rigs in the Fort Morgan pass (Alabama). Cork or fish the bottom?

Fiddlers if you can find them, if not live shrimp. If no current use a split shot for a weight. Small hook, I started using #2 from Catchall and have increased my hookup. Short flouro leader.

We tore them up on frozen sand fleas in the pass a while back. Carolina rig with heavy weight. We were in abput 60' of water

I like Carolina rig with live shrimp. Drop to bottom and lift sinker oh so slowly, feel with light rod tip, and set hook.

They should be all piled up at the end of the jetties in perdido pass on the Alabama side of the pass. If you go on Saturday, you'll see where the boats are.
Last year I watched these kids with snorkels dive down with a spear and would hand pick their monster fish every time they went down. Then they would come to the surface and say there is 100 directly below me.
End of the jetties is where I would recommend you go
