It was repaired after Ivan. I fished it many times afterward. It went to hell about 6 yrs ago from sinkholes after a couple tropical storms. I've heard several different things about the property there regarding ownership and why it hasn't been repaired but I don't know what's true or not so I'm not going to sling any rumors. All I can say is that it is not considered priority by the state.
stauty trout likes this.

Often the problem is money. I called 'em last year about the ramp at The Pines, and Blankenship was nice enough to email me back. Said they'd like to fix the silting in, but they don't have the budget. Bama is going broke, it's been in the news.

I talked with the guy last year who opened up the gulf restaurant there next to the seawall and he told me that he had an agreement with the city when he purchased that strip of land next to the sea wall for the restaurant that if he developed out the property with beautification of the city in mind, that the city would fix the seawall for all to use.
Guess that's not gonna happen.
I figured some Bp monies could have been ear marked for that project.

BP money is supposed to be for environmental projects that are some how connected to the gulf. Or for recreational opportunities related to the gulf.

Maybe hauling in some old shipping containers and using them as the building was not deemed as "beautification of the city in mind,"

Chapman, that is also what I had heard. That used to be a busy place. Fishing, sightseeing, etc. Between BP money and funds brought in by The Gulf's owner (he also owns the hangout and must make a fortune from hangout fest), you'd think some wheels would start turning.

It's called recycle . Which is environmentally green. I thought that's the point.
Jimmy buffet concert was a great environmental benefit when he played on the beach with BP's money for $750,000.

He is worth $250,000,000
You would think he could fix it himself, but it's not his responsibility to fix the cities falling apart structures. I talked with him the day they sold their first burger. I sat at the bar with him and talked about what the property used to be and what it is today, and what they can create for tomorrow. He has developed his property some what, now the city should do theirs.
With the taxes the city receives from each tourist season, they should do more than just leave up a crappy fence. I have many years of memories as a kid fishing from that sea wall. It's a shame to see they do nothing for the beautification of their own city structure.
