I haven't been this year but in past years the south end of the bay around Blacks Island and west of that out from Robinson's Point were good areas. Get a chart of the bay so you can follow the channels. It's very easy to run into shallow water. The channel that goes in front of Pig Island leads to good areas at Robinson Point. Scallop Cove is a great place to stay but probably booked. Good luck!

I went the other day, left Pressnells and started hunting all of my normal spots. I could only find a few stragglers. I checked all depths from 1 foot to 7 feet. Doesn't look like it will even be as good as last year. Luckily it was only a day trip, I would have hated to lost a bunch of money on cabins and eating out to have busted on scallops. I can always bet a weeks paycheck that I can limit 5 people out every day. I won't even try again this year.

My buddy has been there for 3 days and has been getting a 3 person limit everyday in a couple hours. I think it all depends where your at. He did say where he got them last year it's slim pickings. Gonna join him tomorrow.

well be going the 27th of july, last year we scalloped around the west end of blacks island, ended up with a doz, not even worth our time but we had fun regardless. this year i dont know if were returning to blacks island area or headed north towards the midpoint of Cape san blas or the tip of cape san blas. 2011 we went for the first time and loaded up around the 15ft mark 5 or 6 sacks full of scallops. Ill post up a report when we get back.

Anybody remember the 80s when scallops were thick at Fort McCree ?
Back then the limit was a half gallon shucked per person and we would be back at the house by noon with a 3 person limit shucked.

They move every year. Gotta go where most the boats are every year, that is what I have learned. Here is the FWC pre season survey, looks like St Joe's is gonna be another poor year:

Year Hernando Crystal River Steinhatchee St. Marks St. Joseph Bay
1997 20.2 15.2 25.9 - 27.3
1998 0.8 3.0 27.4 - 13.4
1999 8.7 28.6 164.4 - 31.1
2000 51.8 242.8 218.3 - 3.8
2001 72.2 299.3 122.8 - 12.1
2002 6.7 51.8 138.7 - 37.5
2003 10.8 125.6 61.3 - 28.7
2004 1.4 5.7 18.8 - 2.4
2005 27.4 72.3 22.7 - 59.2
2006 9.1 21.9 11.2 - 35.6
2007 37.8 48.0 36.8 - 41.2
2008 98.8 86.2 140.0 170.0 11.3
2009 9.4 20.7 69.0 8.4 97.2
2010 32.3 77.0 54.5 5.4 138.2
2011 137.7 37.9 136.1 19.4 154.8
2012 45.7 36.5 28.2 68.3 10.9
2013 21.3 74.6 36.2 9.2 23.0

Still doable though to limit out in a couple of hours, what I have found is when there are not as many you just gotta move A LOT more often until you find them. Move every 10-15 minutes if you have not found at least 10.

I was reading an article about steinhatchee at the sea hag marina. It looked nice and I'm thinking about planning a trip there next year. The reports I was reading were very good with small sizes but good amounts. Anyone ever been there?
