Default Reply from Gov Crist office in reference to Fishing Regulations

I wrote Gov Christ office last week asking him where he stood on these fishing regulations and what he was doing to help the private fisherman in his state. This is the reply I got back from one of his assistants.

Thank you for contacting Governor Charlie Crist's Office and sharing
your concerns about recent decisions by the South Atlantic Fishery
Management Council ("the Council"). The Governor asked that I respond
on his behalf.

Governor Crist supports the Council's efforts to protect our precious
natural resources; however, the Governor believes this action will have
serious ramifications for Florida's recreational anglers and our
economy. The requirement to establish strict catch limits for all
federally managed species that are undergoing "overfishing" by 2010 is
affecting Florida in ways that were not anticipated. A closure
effectively puts Florida's fishermen out of work in an already
challenging economic time and would severely diminish the multi-million
dollar annual contribution the South Atlantic fishery makes to Florida's
economy.

Governor Crist has contacted Charles Davis, Chairman of the South
Atlantic Fishery Management Council to encourage a prompt review of the
science used to validate the Council's decisions in the fishery
management process. The Governor also contacted U.S. Department of
Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and asked that the Department do
everything possible to lessen the impact on Florida's anglers while
still protecting our natural resources.

Rest assured, Governor Crist is committed to ensuring that necessary
steps are taken to rebuild fish population in all waters adjacent to
Florida, but firmly believes that a fishery-wide closure must be a last
resort only after all other options have been exhausted.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact Governor Crist. Please
do not hesitate to write again to share your concerns and ideas about
issues that are important to you.

Sincerely,

Warren Davis

That makes me feel so much better to know he is on top of this. The only thing he is on top of is the fence, running for Senator. He is not a NW Florida Friend. Is all about him and his lawyer friends. Beware of the man with a golden tan.

So why didn't he sign onto the letter that was endorsed by every other govenor on the gulf coast?

I challenge him to produce a copy of any correspondence to those "very important people:sick) as proof that he did indeed contact them about this issue.

I am nota Martinez fan, but I will vote against Christ, and would urge any other Floridian to do the same. He is a puppet of the lobbyist, Big Sugar, Big Oil, and, I have it on good authority, "Big Boys"oke

Sounded pretty noncommittal to me.

Since no one else has noticed, my comment is that his whole letter addresses the actions taken by the SOUTH ATLANTIC COUNCIL and says nothing about the Gulf Coast Council. His staff obviously does not, will not, or cannotuse such identifiers as Area Code contained in a query to determine which canned answer to send back.

Typical bureaucracy BS.

This post was exactly my reply back to him yesterday. I asked him why he did not sign the letter the other governors signed and asked him to send me emails or letters to the people he has contacted in reference to this. We will see how his office dances around this one. I also suggested that they make his support public either on his website or through the media. I provided them with this website address in case they wanted to show their support here...yeah right....:usaflag

Sorry to say, pretty benign response, making it clear why he did not join the other 4 governors. Wait 'til Florida is asking TX for oil!

That was verbatum the same canned answer i got. Pretty lousy politickin when it talkes weeks to compose a vague response that avoids answering the question or making a commitmemnt.

Christ doesn't even do a good job of camo - his democratic skin shows through.

I asked him (in my first letter) why he did not sign the petition. Oddly enough, he did not bother to respond to me. I doubt he will respond to you. Can't respond to a question that has no good ambiguous answer......
