Default Relief Well

Does anybody have a place where they have updated information on the relief well. As in how close they are to completion and how deep they are. I know this is a slow process but it would be nice to know how they are progressing. I do not feel like this part has been given enough coverage or updates seeing how this is the end step...hopefully.

This is a good point since everything else is failing.

You can get this from the BP site:

http://www.bp.com/genericarticle.do?categoryId=9033657&contentId =7061734

Click on the high resolution image and see current progress.

This says the drill casing for the closest relief well is down to 12090 out of 18000..?

Started May 2. May 2 to June 2 12090 out of 18000.

431 feet a day?

13 more days till they reach the original bore? Is that possible? Too hopeful to even imagine.

Does it really matter what they report about the efforts? we already know that the only thing truthful we can count is when they say "there is an "earl" leak down there...

I think it will be sometime in August, at the earliest; for a relief well. At least that is what they have been saying all along.

OK, stupid question, why is the relief well so far away ? Why not 2000' away from blowout well & drill at a 45 degree angle ? Only would have to drill 2828' !! No 1 mile deep answers please,,,,

Cross Creek - I agree with your "at the earliest" statement. My money is on October. I hate to admit it, but based on potential hurricanes/tropical storms and the fact that they've yet to come anywhere near hitting a deadline, that's my prediction

Because when they intercept the leaking well they must pump enough heavy mud UP the well to equal more weight than the pressure of the well in order to stop the flow of oil. Then and only then can the inject the concrete in behind the mud and then stop everything and let the concrete harden. You can't pour concrete through a liquid as it will wash apart and be useless. I don't know the weight figure that heavy mud exerts per foot but it will take a lot of feet of the mud to counteract the pressure.
