Default Rehooking Gotcha's

Anybody ever try to replace the hooks on a Gotcha? I have about 8 or 10 of them that I bought about 10 years ago. I would say 4 or 6 of them have never seen the water, but the hooks are rusted on all of them. Good ol southern humidity!

The hooks are through wired and pulled pretty tight. I thought about cutting the old hooks off and putting new ones on with split rings. But the rear hooks are all pulled tight to the tube of the body. I think the whole wire system will have to be cut out and replaced. Anybody know where to gt some stainless wire to do this with?

Or is it just not worth it. I'm sure someone is going to tell me to just go buy new ones, but they don't sell them this far from the coast.

I would put the split ring on then cut the old hook out if you don't want to rewire it

I dont think I can. You cant get a split ring on the rear wire. It is pulled to tight on all of them.

I hate gotcha's with a passion, I swear every part of them is built to fail. Lost my first big jack due to a gotcha failure ~2 weeks ago, and I was just telling my buddy that day how much I hated gotcha's but there was nothing else worth buying at the store...

I rigged up some Gotchas with siwash hooks in place of the little treble hooks that come on them for that reason. When bait is being thrashed on the surface I'll throw a 1 oz Gotcha with siwash hooks and a short wire on it. Haven't lost a Jack, King or Bonito to a bent out little treble hook since.
