Default Quick report- Orange Beach, 6-19-14

Short and sweet- or at least to the point.

Took one of my employees with me this AM (not too early)- we headed out the pass looking for some action... Picked up a couple BlueFish, released them and headed out- But didn't see anything except a group of boats about a couple miles south of the pass. I didn't see a whole lot of action, and guessing we missed the real action, continued south. It was so nice, we thought we'd just see how far we could get. Hoping to find some clean water and weed lines... Got about 20 miles and found some weed patches, but no real clean water!
Did score a Bar Jack and a couple Blue Runners on a Clarke Spoon. Headed back to the trolling pyramids to set up a little drift for a king. Ran across a school of Cigar Minnows and picked up a few.
Set up at the pyramids- No luck there either. Had a chat with the Conservation Officer and soaked a couple baits for awhile before heading in.

Docked for a couple hours, switched passengers and tactics... Took Cookie and picked up some live bait and worked our way to Bird island and Robinson Island. Hooked up on a couple ladyfish. Then Cookie caught one and got her finger pierced in the process. OUCH!!! I mean, way past the barb. So had to perform a little first aid.

Took about 12" of 60# and applied some pressure to drive the hook down to bring it back out with least resistance on the barb- loop the leader around the buried hook and snatch it back out. Got her patched up and went back to the pass to see if there was any action going on in the gulf. Didn't find much except some dolphin and picked up some scaled sardines on the Sabiki. Went back to the pass and took as many BlueFish as we wanted (9). Hint- they're pretty good if you bleed them right after you catch them. We like them fried with a mess of Hushpuppies.
Anyway- still trying to figure out where the mackerel are.... And that was our day
