I thought it would go smoothly and without opposition, but of course there has to be someone or a group who doesn't want the fall snapper season and this time it's a group of charter guys from Orange Beach.
They want to "save" the days to have a longer continuous season next summer, but who knows what will happen between now and then. There's a good chance we end up getting state regionalisation, where the state manage the quota individually. The Gulf Council and NOAA Admin is looking for a way to give us a consistent season over the next couple of years. I think the month of June and 6-8 weekends in the fall would be acceptable at this point if that's what we had every year without immediate closure. All we need everyone to do is go online and comment, this link sends you straight to the comment page and it'll take less than a minute to complete. What needs to be stated is that you would like a fall season, when you would like for it to start, and whether you want weekends or continuous days. Link to Comment If you want a fall season and do not know what to put please just write the following "I would like to see a fall season with the additional quota being given for 2013. I would prefer a weekend only season starting October 1." Needs to be done by Sunday 7-14 and we will know something after next weeks meeting in New Orleans! |

Will do Chris and thanks for the support you've been providing by attending these meetings. And I believe that the weekends in the fall would be better than only like 2 continuous weeks. Yes, that will mean it may get a little more crowded out there on select days, but think about the weather and how the 8 weekends would give us such a larger time-frame to work around any inclement weather. Heck, look at how nasty it was the first 4-5 days of July.

I'm curious as to which idiots wouldn't want a fall season. I know for our store, the fall 2010 season was a huge boost for our business and as I recall, the charter guys did pretty good with it too. I can't see any negative for them other than it cutting into their hunting season (GTFOI)
Its not letting me see the form. Is there another way I can comment?

Chris, I'm not sure if you're a member over on the Florida sportsman forum but that would be a good place to post this as well.

Done, but I don't think weekends are the way to go.Reason is in the fall cold fronts start rollin through every week with out fail, the wind switches to the north most times blowing 25+mph,this last on average 2-3 daysand if this starts on a week end the whole season is SCREWED!

Done. Also linked it on my Facebook page. Might be a good idea for others to do so as well to help spread the word.
