Default Planning a tuna trip.

Some friends and i would like to charter a YFT trip, hopefully 36 hours or longer and i have read that the months of November through February are the best months for YFT in the Gulf. So hear are my questions;

1. What is consider the best month for YFT in the GOM?

2. Which departure point gives the best chance of success, Northern Panhandle area on South Louisiana? I know they catch fish out of both but you read alot about Sackett Bank and Flower Garden areas South of Venice or Grand Isle.

I realize that boat and crew will play a hugh part in the success/enjoyment of the trip and i will narrow that down once i get thewhen and wherefigured out. If you run this type of tripor would like to recommend a Captian or Crew and you have first hand experience with them on this type trip then i would certainly appreciate that input as well.

Thanks,

KP

I don't know from personal experience yet, but the charters out of Venice always seem to catch very nice tuna that time of year. You can just google Venice yellowfin tuna and see all of the reports.

Your shot at a Real big fish are no doubt the best that time of year but personally my favorite time is June through november. The fish arent always as big but the numbers are far more consistent with most fish from 50-80lbs but big fish arent uncommon.You could just fine booking 2 or 3 day trips out of Venice for Probably less than a 36hr on a big boat. Give Reel Peace Charters a call

Captain Mike Ellis with Relentless Sportfishing out of Venice. I have a post in the offshore reports from out of the area section where we fished 2 days with him this summer and did well.
