Default outboard help

I just changed the impeller on my 1984 yamaha 200. When I took off the lower unit I had the shifter in reverse. When I went to reinstall the lower unit I had trouble getting it to seat properly. I moved the shifter into neutral and the lower unit sealed properly. Now the engine will shift fine into forward but reverse is tight. It will go into reverse but it takes some force. Do you think the linkage is misaligned.
Thanks

Went ahead and removed the lower unit again, put it back into reverse and was able to get it back in place. Now the throttle moves freely.
This was a fairly easy job for anyone that might be considering doing there own.
