As a general rule an abondon rig drillas well as a fire drill are performed once a week and as you might expect during the drill every thing goes as planned and everyone attends to the task given them and the non essential personel report to their assigned life boat. In a perfect world the same thing should happen in the event thatan actual fire or abondon rigcituation should arise. However this is seldom the case. Once the alarm sounds and the announcement is made that it is not a dril, panic takes over, you'll have people jumping over the side, launching lifeboats before they are loaded and thefire left to burn out of control. Unfortunately no ammount of training or effort could have controlled a fire and explosion of this magnitude. Truely the biggest loss is that of the lives of those that died on that rig and sadly to say the real cause of this diaster along with them.

If this was just about 11 people getting killed in an oil rig problem it would have already been swept under the rug and everyone who gets fat off of these rigs would still be getting fat.......... By the way they live inland where who cares what happens to the coast of my cash cow... I fish streams, lakes and hunt where you poor folks cant mess it up for me!!!!! Its not about the people who diedl....... Its about the small folks again... The ones who dont matter..... We have no choice but to watch what happens.. Thanks!!!! I hope the best but expect the worst. One of the reasons I have loaded weapons in my house today. The RICH dont care about you or me we are nothing to them. Truth be known NONE of our opinions matter in this situation you can bitch complain or be ok with what is happening this is all in the hands of the billionares and they dont give a shit about usLITTLE PEOPLE...... Sit back and watch the show or bitch to someone who cares but guess what????It doesnt change whats happening ...THOUSANDS OFGALLONS OF OIL PER DAY ARE BEING DUMPED INTO THE GULF EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!!Think about the chum slick your little bottle of menhaden oil puts out........

A Salt Weapon (22/05/2010)Bp knows there is a 75 million dollar claim cap. I understand they could have blown the hole and closed it off but it would have destroyed a hole that cost more to drill than the claim cap. So screw it let it spill, pay the 75 million and then retap it and make the money back in one day. Screw American beaches and wildlife and their way of life. This is BP not AP.
Actually, you understand very little my friend "blowing" the hole as you call it would not work. BP has 0 incentive to let this keep flowing. They have expended significantly more than 75 million dollars already, much much more actually. BP is also a publicly traded MNC so any profits go to the shareholders (whose stock is tanking more each day this continues), which could include you if you hold any number of 401K or mutual funds. Wouldn't that be a hoot. Anyway BP can drill anywhere in the world not just the gulf. The jokes on us, deepwater rigs are already leaving the gulf because of the moratorium on drilling, it could take years if ever to get them to come back. Guess what retards, if we can't drill domestic we have to import more oil from overseas via tankers. Fact: 7 of the 9 major US oil spills were from TANKERS not rigs. Peace.
