Default Oil Booms, what's the point?

Water over the booms on an outgoing tide on the bay side of Ft. Pickens, just south of the fishing pier.

Booms in non flowing water will stop oil temporarily but you have to have plans in place to quickly remove the oil from behind the boom once it's collected. There is no plan or attempt to do this. I'm getting really pissed off with the lack of commitment from BP an our government to clean up this mess.

I don't know what is going on over there but I'm on the water 7 days a week with the Ves of opp. I'm in Destin and we are responding to every little tar ball reported and getting our assigned skimmer boats to the larger quantities. That pic. is shameful if nobody is doing anything more. Sorry to see that. Do you guy's have a pretty organized operation with your charter boats and private ones?

So the outgoing tide would rip it apart so the wouldn't have to deal with it anymore I guess... Doesn't make much sense to have it in place on an outgoing tide...

This was not a boom over the pass, simply a crescent shaped boom covering a portion of the shoreline just south of the pickens fishing pier. But none the less the point is the same. The booms are useless with those strong tides.

So, I guess it's true that NOBODY thought "worst case scenario".

Maybe further drilling should be halted until a solution to the current debacle can be found?

But wait... that's Obama's plan, so it can't be a good idea.

no jim, it's not a good idea from the current administration...we all know about the "trickle down effect"...and i'll paraphrase here one of my fox news commentators...

like a student stole something from another student on a field trip...teacher says, " if the guilty party comes forward, then we'll be okay...otherwise, the whole class will never go on another field trip"...

i say drill baby drill...a bit more regulation...not much, but in the the long run, it'll work and before i get too political, the current administration and all their cabinet and think heads have to be the worst in the history in my life time since say, the carter admin...who i'd be willing to bet that you voted for...

of course, i blame you for most of this...flying jets loaded with oil laden fuel...sorta like algore flying around the world picking up all his accolades....j/k...
