Default Oahu Hawaii vacation looking for recommended Charter

Headed to Hawaii for a vacation on April 15th for 10 days, would like to go out on a charter boat for a day.

Anyone have any recommendations on Oahu charter boats?

Not sure if they're still operating, but I chartered the Coreene C-3 out of Kewalo Basin twice when I lived in Hawaii. Both times we caught mahi, ono (wahoo) and aku (tuna), plus both times we had marlin strikes. The Coreene C-3 has the distinction of boating the largest marlin ever caught on rod and reel, 1,803 pounds.

Good luck and have fun!

Just be advised, any fish caught belongs to the boat. I think they'll generally share some with you but don't expect to keep your fish.

This is from a boat in Kona, but rules apply throughout Hawaii.

that wasnt the case when we fished Kona back in Sept. Both of the captians I fished with where great and I would highly recommend them. We fished with Wayne on Playtime Charters 38 Buddy Davis, 808-938-1914. I was suppose to fish with him for 3 days, but he had an unexpected death in the family so I picked up with Capt Issacs on the Anxious and they were jam up as well.

Is this your first time going to Hawaii? Be prepared to wake up at 3 am the first couple nights you are there and be wide awake. The time change is a little rough

Check with the capt. I fished Kona several times / years/ and the fish belonged to the boat. It is not a bad thing but different arrangements can be made.

So do they pay you to go out and catch fish for them? If you caught a big enough tuna or swordfish the meat should more then pay for the boat.

Probably 98% of the customers are tourists, what are they gonna do with a 200# Tuna? The markets aren't allowed to by from unliscenced sellers, hotels are not allowed to take it either. If you're renting a condo you're not gonna use all of it.

Seems like a fair thing to do, especially if they'll share some if you want it.

I'd bet there are different deals for locals.

Prices seem to be about $600 for 4 to 6 people... dang cheap compared to fishing here. A full day in Venice is $1200 PLUS gas so $1600 or so.

<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">I last did a charter in 2005 and you split the smaller fish with the boat. Any fish over a certain size belonged to the boat. Geared mostly towards tourists.
