Default new to pensacola

Hi! I am new here in Pensacola...have lived in Florida all my life but never on a beach. I have a place right on the beach at Pensacola Beach. I've always been an avid fisherman, but have strictly fished freshwater. The saltwater fishing thing is entirely new to me. I need some help starting because I am essentially clueless when it comes to this. What type of lure/bait should i be using if I am fishing directly off the beach or kayaking off the shore? Is there a special way to rig it (lead/cork) What lb. test line would be good for...whatever it is im fishing for. Where are the piers here, how much do they cost? What should I be fishing for and how should I rig it? cork and sit? or lure and casting and reeling? Very detailed responses will be most helpful, or if you can compare to fishing for some sort of freshwater fish.

Any other beginning tips and advice would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Also, if anyone needs a fishing buddy for the weekends or anything. I could use the help and advice.

Welcome to the forum. If you live right on the beach, you can cast gotcha lure, or gold spoon with lite steel leaderand catch a few, or use a carolina style rig with a 3-4 oz wt. and 4-7/0circle hook on 20-30- lb florocarbon leader, using shrimp or squid or live bait. Try fishing the pier near bob sikes, you can pic up useful info from local fisherman.

Welome to the Beach and the PFF.

Try visiting Hot Spots Bait and Tackle in Gulf Breeze.

They will show and answer all your questions.

Welcome to the forum/madness. You may want to visit the pier on the beach just south of the intersection of Via DeLuna and Ft. Pickens Road. Ask anyone (local) where the Casino Beach Fishing pier is located and they will direct you.

Also, if you can make it, a bunch of alkies from this forum usually meet up at Gilligan's Tiki bar, on Wednesday afternoons, behind the Hampton Inn on PCB for free oysters on the half shell and cheap beer. Come join us.:letsdrink

To answer all of your question on here would take ALLOT of typing, as others suggested hook up with Matt or Chris at Hot Spots Bait and Tackle in Gulf Breeze, go to the piers and see what others are doing, pick up some saltwater fishing magazines or maybe even subscribe to a few, they can be INVALUABLE. Welcome to P.cola, and the Forum, and lot's of luck.

Welcome to Ptown! Like the guys said go into GBBT(right by Waffle House in Breeze) or Hot Spots(right by Mcdonalds and BaskinRobbins)...Its getting the time of year when the Pompano come back..Great fight and better eating..I would stop by and ask one of the guys to show you how to tie a pomp leader or 2 drop rig..You tie 2 loops, and a pyramid weight at the bottom and swivel on top..On the loops you run the line through the hook..Use 2 fresh shrimp or sandfleas for bait..I like to use orange beads because they look like Sandflea roe above the hook..Casting as far as you can..Youd prob want to get a big rod like 9 or 10 ft with a cheap reel or a reel like a Penn SS because its going to get salt and sand in it ..Youll want to wash it off after each use..When it gets colder you can go off the beach and catch Bonita(Tuna Family)...They fight very hard but are not good to eat..They run along the sandbars and 5-10 yds off the beach in the cold months..For these youll want to use a white pompano jig on a smaller rod..You can also Shark fish..Youd need a big rod and reel like a senator but most ppl Kayak there baits out..The 2 drop rig is your best bet and you can catch pomps, redfish, blackdrum, whiting, bluefish(all good to eat) and an assortment of trash fish.....I hope this helps...AND if you dont want to do all this grab a rod and COME TO THE PIER...Ill offer all my knowledge..You just bring the beer!oke

From the beach I would use 15 or 20lb line..You will be slinging big leads and sitting them rod holders you can make using a piece of PVC pipe..The line for the leader is 20lb clear, hooks size 2(i think) owner circle and 1-5oz Pyramid weights..Some bait and your in the game..
