Man I am wearing certain members out with PM questions so I thought that I would post this one on here to give them a break. I am looking to get the strongest and thinnest 30# Mono that I can find to maximize my yardage on my reel for some sharkin in the surf. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have heard good things about P-line CXX but I believe that the Hi-Seas “Black Widow” is a little bit thinner so I would get more on the reel (although I am not sure how much more). Also, does color matter? If so what colors should I look for and which should I avoid?

You're not going to find a thinner monofilament line than Momoi Diamond Illusion.. yes the stuff mark sosin endorses.

I've always used Ande Backcountry, but recently switched a few reels to Berkly Big Game(due to cost). I catch big fish, so I replace my mono a lot.

Ande and moimoi both seem to dry out and get chaulky. I know the ande "tournament" green line is supposed to be the most consistent in dia., but after using ande all cobia season, I moved on. I have suffix 25 on now and caught a couple tarpon last week, I was very impressed with strength, and it didn't get chaulky looking after being stretched to the limit for a while...we'll see how it holds up. P-line seems stiff, shouldn't matter unless its on spinning gear.

I don't always use mono but when I do......I use Berkley big game. It's always performed well for me in most situations.

I like P-line, I use it almost exclusively for my spinning rods bass fishing and it works just fine if you spool it correctly.

What do y'all think about Hi-Catch Diamond Monofilament 20lb for pier king fishing?
