I worked in restaurants when I was a kid. 99% of the time you are eating pollock.

I'm pretty sure the old owner of tight lines ( it went by another name then) got arrested for selling mislabeled fish at his resteraunt. Its quite easy to tell the difference with most fish but anything fried is still gonna be good! Just avoid anything considered white fish!

Anybody knows if Peg Leg Pete's grouper sandwich is legit? That's pretty much the only time I ordered fish at a restaurant.

Sorry,
But if I don't catch it, I won't eat it.
I refuse to support commercial fisherman and restaurants that are supplied by them. I had rather eat Vietnam raised catfish fed with hog shit than a commercial caught gulf red snapper.
They won the battle over recreational fishermen quotas. They won't get my dollar!

The newest fish is Swai on the market for the "bait and switch". The fish is super fatty and really not that good for you.

The only fish I eat is the one I've caught myself. Then usually I fry it up right there on the spot. Can't get any more fresh then when it's still twitching in the grease

Seems like a fellow named Poppa went to federal prison for relabling fish and selling them to military bases like Tyndall, Hurlbert, etc. He's probably out now, but they should jail anyone who plays this scam.
I know what Yellowtail looks and tastes like. My buddy was scammed at a popular restaurant on Ramrod Key last April. If that was yellowtail, my hamburger was Lobster.

We ate at landrys a few weeks ago, my father in law ordered the "red snapper"... fish came out whole on the plate ( yes it was cooked) but I swear the fish was 9" long, and that being generous. Im thinking it was mingo

what kind of yellowtail? California yellowtail, Japanese yellowtail? yellowtail grouper, yellow tail/fin trevally?

there's plenty of fish labeled "yellowtail" that could be sold as such.
