Default Lowrance Elite 4 Help

I just finished installing a Elite 4 model and it works great, no complaints, except one.

The package came with a 2GB MicroSD card and its SD adapter, presumably to save screenshots and charts.

I loaded it up onto my computer and it is almost full of .nv2 files. I own a Mac, and I need to know the program needed to read and open these files.

I want to be able to determine what is on these files and whether I need them or not. Thanks!

The .nv2 files are navigation files used by navonics. Make sure you load those into your unit if you want the upgraded navigation. I would not delete them or at least back them up on your computer for later in case your GPS gets wiped for some reason.

As mentioned, you need that 2gb card to load waypoints into your unit. Be sure to hold onto it, the elite 4 and 5 only support cards up to 2gb.

So I can't open them on my computer? They're there strictly for the machine?

The .nv2 files is the format for Navionics and you cant really open it on your computer. It just contains information that you see on your chart any way.

To load waypoints onto the card from your computer then to your unit they have to be in .usr format. Use google earth to save/store way points and use GPS Babel to convert them from from .kml (google earth file) to .usr (Lowrance file).
