some tire shops will let you have some old tire balance weights to melt down.

there is a free sailboat hull listed on craigslist.
If it is the type that has lead in the keel you would have quite a bit.

The tire weights work but are an alloy which cools quicker than pure lead...making it a tad more difficult to pour fishing weights with.

wheel weights, when melted down and cleaned, are fine for pouring weights but the alloy is not for lures, it's too brittle to pour the small stuff.
i get a five gallon bucket at a local tire shop up here in selma for $20.
