Looking to start trying to target sailfish when I occasionally go out trolling, I can easily target and catch kings, how do I need to rig for sailfish ????????

I've always heard of them being caught on king rigs. A little luck and being in the right place at the right time is what you really need.

I don't have the boat for it but how far do you guys have to run for them? They look cool to catch. I have seen a few fishing shows and you tube but never in person.

Snook, they catch them on Kayaks, any boat will do given the right weather window.

Right after a weedline (Sargasso) has come in and there are small bits floating. Caught 3 of various sizes in 45 to 50 feet of water due south of the old Coast Guard station on a South East troll or an East and West circular troll. Loops to the East and loops back to the West. Never as far East as the barges or as far west as the beginning of the sand flats South of Pickens. All king rigs on flat lines and metal down planers. Usually a Mahi colored skirt over a bit bigger cigar. They didn't play with it, they just took it like a king. We were actually trolling for Kings and Mahi and caught Sail as by catch.

That is cool. The gulf is a whole new experience to me and I am learning every chance I can. I just always thought they were way out there. Thanks for the information.
