Default How do you catch the topwater stuff offshore?

Ok, every time we go offshore there are fish busting the surface. Today they seemed to be everywhere. I think they are Bonita, but maybe something else. What kind of rig do you carry and what bait do you use to be ready when you see topwater action? Also, what do you carry for when you see chicken dolphin in a weed line?

+1 on the straw rig. Works on chicken dolphin, too.

To catch dolphin throw a Yozuri Crystal minnow size F7 color C59. Cast is out and rip it back as fast as you can.

4000 size spinning reel will work for both and give a heck of a time.

Straw rig for bobos for sure and that is what you are probably seeing. However, even then sometimes the bobos are keying in on tiny tiny little minnows. When they are doing that, it can be damn frustrating because they rarely will bite what ever you are throwing.

Also, make sure you are moving youre bait. Honestly I dont think you can move it too fast!

I use a premade spanish rig ( clark spoon behind a small duster ) to troll weedlines & a tandem speck jig on a small spinning setup to sight cast around weeds/ debris...... works great for chickens........ put the kids on these today.

I have thrown everything in the boat at them till my arm felt like it was going to fall off!
