Default homemade boat/trailer registration

Just bought a little homemade fiberglass boat for tooling around the rivers and lakes and maybe some flats on calm days. Boat and trailer both need some work so it will be a month or two before I put it in the water. My question though, how much of a pita is it to register a homemade boat. The guy I got it from used it in I guess a private pond so it was never registered and has no paperwork. DMV site doesn't say much about it and figure they'll just give me a run around if I'm just asking them for knowledge so I figured I would try here first

Not sure on the boat issue, but the trailer will weigh well under the weight needed to take it and have it officially weighed. When I did my last 1, I told em it weighed about 300 lbs and showed em a bill of sale and it will be all good!

Default Hull Numbers

I believe you will need some hull numbers. They are usually engraved into the hull but a homemade boat won't have any. In that case you may have to put some assigned numbers into the framework. The office in Milton was helpful when I registered a boat recently. It did take more than one trip though. good luck

Contact the Game Warden's office and ask. They will set up a appointment to come and view the boat. They will assign the hull ID numbers.

Been there done that, but I was building the boat.

I can tell you, My son built a homemade boat. All you have to do is call the marine patrol office and tell them you need to have a time to bring the boat down and have it checked and certified as homemade. They will just verify that it isn't a stolen boat that has been modified. They give you a letter and you can get a title. trailers are easier just stamp some numbers on the tongue and tell the office the weight and they will issue you registration for the trailer. Hopefully it hasen't changed in the last 10 years. Nice looking homemade boat they will certify it for sure......

No...I entered this boat in the Wooden Boat show in 03...It took 1st place and people thought it wasn't even wood due to it's straightness and shine.

Entered again in 04.....this time a different class......Took 1st again. Then I sold it to a gun in Al., as I had 3 boats at the time.

Here are some more pix's if you wanted to see them.

Also I stand corrected.....I said Game Warden.....I meant Marine Patrol. They came to the house for me. It was a enjoyable experience talking with him.

Yes even built the custom Livewell.

The boat would run 27MPH with 1 person and 28 with 2 people. Per GPS.
