Question Help a girl out - what to get!?

Hi everyone!

My husband is a member on here and his birthday is coming up. I want to get him something I know he'll like and use, so naturally, lures! He goes through them like crazy!

Only, I'm not very knowledgeable about what types I should look for, so any suggestions from you fine folks would be much appreciated. I know snapper season is almost over, so I guess that's out, but he likes fishing for kings and spanish, mostly. We've gone out for flounder every now and then, but never seem to have much luck.

So what should I be looking for!? (And any other suggestions welcome as well!)

Gift card @ outcast. Always my favorite that I use during the spring sale.

I'm not from the area and will fishing the area for the first time starting in a couple of days...but from what I understand, most of the fishing for kings (at least from area piers) is done on bait rigs....however, in other areas (i.e. SE Florida/Juno Beach) I've caught kings on Clark Spoons, size 10 and 12 'ghost' color Rapala x raps as well as sinking versions of Yo-zuri Crystal Minnows...I'm bringing these with me down to the P'cola area, but not sure how they'd fare in that area...

As far as spanish, gotcha jigs and most small metals will work (sometimes I'll even buy the small cheap kastmaster knock offs called 'kastaways') - also small plugs (mostly the same yozuris I mentioned above, but smaller) will work...

just offering my .02 of what you could pick up if you wanted to give something other than a gift card...but ultimately, I would probably second the gift card idea :-)

But these lures will catch fish in general, if not king macks...

If you stop by one fo the bait stores and tell them of you intentions they'll be sure to point you in the right direction. But some trolling plugs are good like Rapala Magnums, or X Raps, or even some circle hooks in different sizes.

Florocarbon leader - 40-50lb

UNCOATED sevenstrand steel leader - 27-60lb

Every mackeral fisherman needs that stuff...and we hate to buy it!

The UNCOATED sevenstrand stuff can be tough to find. Try the bait n tackle stores.

Rather than give a gift certificate take him to his favorite shop and tell him go nuts with whatever budget you have. Then while he is most probably telling you about all the different types and how they are different while he decides what he wants actually show interest(pretend if you need to). My wife does this for my birthday instead of the usual "I don't care what they are all for just give me a twister tail." He'll feel like he's teaching you something, he gets to spend money, and he gets to do it with you instead of despite of you. My wife does this for my birthday and we have a lot of fun with it and usually leads to more fun too.
