Default Hello

I am going to be moving to Pensacola in August and I am coming down the week of May 16th. I would be interested in any fishing opportunities while I am down. I am also looking for general advice about the area. May will be my first trip into the area.

I would welcome anyone to say hello.
Thanks,
Rick

Hello and welcome to the forums! I cant offer much in the way of fishing info, for the area, I know there are some decent piers and such, but I only visit there, going down in June myself and hoping to hook into some shark!

Welcome aboard. I cant offer much about P'cola either. I fish a tad further east. But this a great forum and someone will be along to help.

It might help if you said what kind of fishing? Pier? Surf? Inshore? Offshore? Freshwater?

I am hoping for salt, but either is okay, I'd like to find a boat and go out with, willing to help and share expenses.

Welcome! Pensacola has a lot to offer both with fishing and in generally being a great city.

I've still got a great deal to learn, and most on this forum will be able to offer much more than I can, but I'll give you my thoughts:

As far as saltwater fishing goes, the piers and the surf are a great way to get accustomed to the variety of fish without sinking tons of money into gear. You can easily start with a couple cheap rod/reel combos that will work in either the surf or on one of the piers. The variety of fish that can be targeted offer something for most everyone. Personally, I've enjoyed some success targeting pompano and reds in the surf at Ft. Pickens as well as sheepshead and mackerel off the pier.

You've taken the two most important initial steps already: 1) You've chosen an excellent city to set up shop, and 2) You've joined the forum.

Cheers!
