The Air Force is proposing to close many miles of shallow water coastline. http://www.saj.usace.army.mil/Missions/Regulatory/PublicNotices/tabid/6072/Artic...

Maps of affected areas:

This will basically close most of the waters around Tyndall AFB. Some of the best fishing on the gulf coast....

It was in the Panama City News last week that Tyndall AFB WITHDREW their request due to public outcry that was led by a local kayak outfitter's Facebook page. They are now trying for a lesser aggressive plan in the event of national security threat . . . (however that is defined)

it wasnt so long ago they closed the water around pensacola nas.

i know when those terrorist see those bouys that say keep out they will turn around and go home. yea right. base security could be enhanced by the mere presence of the public. that along with a number the public could call to report suspicious activity.

we are losing our freedoms and our public lands daily.
the government is taking them by using fear of terrorism and the threat of BRAC.

Tyndall was trying to permanently close all the coastline around the base. Due to public outcry they withdrew the proposal to reword it to not include the word "permanent". So they are still going to close it, just not "permanently" ;-)
