Harassment and Discourteous People

I can't count the times that some dingbat on a paddle board, kayak, or jet ski has blown over my fishing target. Last night a shirtless moron literally paddled directly over my popping cork and asked "are they biting?". To which I naturally replied with a less than pleased "not anymore". Low and behold I pull my pinfish in to check it out and it had the tell-tale tooth marks from a trout trying to stun its prey. This kind of thing really bleeps me off, but for some reason the morality in me allows these people to continue on unscathed.

Here is an example as to the crap I have to deal with (sorry can't figure out how to embed it on here):

The nonsense starts around 8:00 or so

I don't mean to rant, but for heavens sake do people just not have any respect for sportsman anymore? Do you guys have to put up with this nonsense from seemingly the majority of people on the water?

I totally agree. I have had this problem also. But what really gets me is when I am surf fishing and a boat will pulls rigt on top of my line! They have the whole bay/ocean to fish so why pull up on top of me? (Last time they did I hooked an anchor. HAHA)
Happened to me a couple weeks ago and I let him eat all 300+ yards of 25lb braid. There is no reason a boat should be close enought to get in my pomp lines and if they do they get what they deserve.

If you guys want we can organize something. I've got another fella interested. We can slay some bass and have a fish fry and a bonfire!

Let me know when. I am interested in joining you. I would like to see how he reacts to multiple yaks on "his" pond. Lol.

People. BItch at me all the time when I go out an hour drive to a public reef, and they think they own it. You can tell they are yelling back at times, but I can't hear them because I've got some Luke bryan playing at a pretty good volume. I can see they are bitchin, but I just waive back, which doesn't stop the bitchin.
I don't get right on top of people, but some think they own it. And , people , I am hear today, to let everyone know that they do not own it. If I drive 30 miles out in the ocean to a spot that is off by itself ( avocet ) , I'm fishing it wether you like it or not.
Sorry if I'm a jerk, but I'm there and I fishing it.
Most people are glad to see someone else, but some are asses about it, and I will waive back as I listen to my country music.
The last thing you want to do is ruin my day of fishing. Then I have to turn my music down and respond because I can't hear your bitchin.

If you guys are interested send me a private message and we can work out the details. I'm a disabled vet so I'm free most days, let me know when you're available.

No boat launch there as its a fairly small pond, but there is plenty of public access. Even my son caught a 3 pounder on a shiner there, with a 5 pounder or so following him in. Believe me, he's watching them too. The first time he bothered me he was yellin at me from there.

Thank you for the support guys.

Thanks for your service, sorry about the fishing problem, but some folks thrive on being assholes. Pissing him off wont solve the problem but if the game warden could be at your little fishing adventure and cite him for violation of the statute you quoted..... yall might be onto something. On the other hand, you could try taking a few steaks and a half case of beer to the guys house in good faith and putting them on the grill, explaining that you love this lake as much as he does and you've both got the same interest in mind and make a friend instead of an enemy. Never can have too many of those.

I'm not looking to solve the problem anymore. I tried that nicely, minus the steaks, after he yelled at me and my 6 year old son. If you watched the video you can tell I gave it another good shot after that.

He yells and cusses at kids, tells people they can't be there, and generally causes problems for everyone that fishes there even though he doesn't even own the land that runs up to the pond. I know it's not the Christian thing to do, but rather than cave his head in I figured the best way to demonstrate the negative side effects of his actions would be through awareness.

Not to mention it makes for entertaining videos.

Dude you should have turned your camera on him. I would next time and read him the statute before letting him know that you were taking the video evidence in to show the authorities.
The only steak that joker should need would be one to sooth a black eye.
And the only beer he deserves would be one already properly processed. :fishslap: :drink: Psssssss

I think if the do this maliciously then yeah but if they dummy up on you without intentionally trying to take your spot or fish your spot or cut you out of the fish I say just say something. I had a guy while I was fishing come up to me on a boat and ask if I had caught anything that day, told him yeah a few reds. He asked where which I replied "right here". He dropped anchor and starts fishing between me and my spot!! So I just cast over him and his boat and continued to fish it. He was upset when I was dragging jig through his boat and he moved along.....

he lives on the pond and he doesn't want people fishing there.. been through that many times.. had an ex who lived on a pond and the neighbor came up to me and harassed me for fishing and said "we don't want people fishing here"

as long as its not a private lake (like only residents can fish there) you have every G D right to be there, next time call up FWC and report his ass and let him get a citation, maybe then he will learn that he doesn't own that lake. you were 100% right in your actions but i wish you would of told him the law as well.. no way were you gonna reason with him

also the fact he threatened you was uncalled for and another good reason why you should have gotten FWC involved for harassing a fisherman

i was fishing 3mile bridge one night and really trying to focus and a group of bible thumpers came up to me and started annoying me, i wish i knew of this law and i could have told them.

I have dealt with this for years fishing both pond and wade fishing around docks. It unfortunately comes with the territory. even though you try and respect them by keeping a fair distance, some are just not happy either way. I have had it where the sheriffs office was called only to have them call in marine patrol office to explain the rules to show them I am not breaking any rules. some people don't realize that its much healthier to have their ponds fished from time to time. I don't go there to cause any issues but don't take it as well. these days are much easier since you can have a cell phone on hand to solve any problems that come about. it could also prevent any future problems down the road as well since if you are fishing legal, officers intend to make it clear that if this person continues to call or harass, they could face possible future for themselves. there is ways to solve such matters. I know, been there and done that. as a kid, fishing kept me out of trouble.:D
