Default Gulf grouper fishing

Below web link is to gulf council grouper amendment 32

http://www.gulfcouncil.org/Beta/GMFMCWeb/downloads/BB%20APRIL%202010/B%20-%205%20Options%20Paper%20RF32%20April%202010.pdf

Starting on page 45 the options to be considered include alternative 3:
<ustrong>

Alternative 3: Prohibit recreational fishing for

a. gag

b. all grouper

c. all bottom fishing

within an area east and south of the Mobile Bay (or other region defined by the

Council) encompassing a depth range of

d. deeper than 15 fathoms (26% release mortality rate or higher)

e. deeper than 25 fathoms (50% release mortality rate or higher)

f. deeper than 35 fathoms (75% release mortality rate or higher)

With the closed area to be in effect during

g. January through April (gag spawning season)

h. Whenever the recreational fishing season for gag is closed

i. Whenever the recreational fishing season for gag is open

j. Year-round
</ustrong>

With the current red snapper regs in place closing all grouper fishing (scamp, yellowedge etc included)beyond 15 fathoms (90FT) would pretty much finish the job on bottom fishing in the gulf...

Ihave no idea what they (NMFS) will decide to do.

I don't know either. I think they will need another chicken and a kazoo to decide...

If that passes.....I guess I'll just sell my boat and start to fish occasionally on the piers, shores, beaches,and bridges only. What are these guys trying to do........ruin / destroy fishing in FL. This is just crazy !!! Somebody needs to do something about all of this over-regulation. I'm all for proper conservation, but IMO.....I think they are going too far now.....actually have been for a couple of years now ! Just my opinion.

I don't think they are trying to ruin fishing in Florida I think they are succeeding! And as far as the "Somebody needs to do something about all of this over-regulation." statement that somebody is us. We need to let our voices be heard and show up at all the meetings where these numb-nutz will see we are serious.
