Default Fairhope, Alabama question

So my wife wants to spend mother's day weekend in Fairhope, but I've never been there and know nothing about it. Does anybody have a suggestion of where to stay? She says she wants to stay downtown or by the water within a half mile or so of downtown.

Also, what are the must see or do things there?

Thanks in advance

There's a Hampton Inn right in the middle of downtown, some of the rooms have balconies to main street, but they might already all be booked.

There isn't a ton to do in Fairhope. Walk/Shop Downtown, Walk the Pier, a couple museums, Theatre 98, Fairhope Brewing Company, etc. TBH, Shopping and eating are the mainstays of downtown Fairhope. Also, Fairhope Boat Company will rent out kayaks (nicer ones) or canoes if that's your thing.

EDIT - There's also the Grand Hotel in Point Clear. More upscale, inclusive type hotel/resort, but pricey.

Fairhope is a beautiful little city... Look up bed and breakfasts places. I've only visited the town, never stayed. Lots of shopping downtown. Be weary, folks around there can't drive fer crap!

Grand Hotel - nice place to stay/eat. They have fishing pier that I have caught many trout and reds from. Some nights got bored of catching it was so hot. Your wife will enjoy it. But call and see if they are done with renovations. They were re-doing the pool, spa, etc some time back.

For food I would highly recommend Gambinos restaurant. The steaks and prime rib are killer. Texar Bama is a new restaurant and it is good also. The Fairhope museum is worth the look. Good History lesson about the area. If you want to walk in parks look into weeks bay estuary and Blakely state park. Or you can walk along the bay.

Love Fairhope. Very nice town. Hotels are few and far between. The Grand Hotel is a upper scale resort that is just south of downtown. Very nice. Take your bikes and cycle along scenic Hwy 98. Recommend Dragonfly Foodbar on Church Street. Great chef and some interesting food combos.

I'd choose by the water.

You can fish the pier, ride bikes, walk, eat good food, browse art galleries. If I were you, I would call the Grand Hotel at Point Clear (3 or 4 miles from Fairhope) for a Mother's day brunch.
